Global climate change has a significant impact on marine ecosystems. Continuously rising ocean temperatures cause a decrease in dissolved oxygen, affecting the survival of many species. Higher temperatures cause coral bleaching, where zooxanthellae, symbiotic algae that provide color and nutrition, dissolve from their host tissue. This bleaching not only reduces biodiversity, but also disrupts ecosystems that depend on coral reefs. Additionally, ocean acidification caused by increased carbon dioxide (CO2) disrupts the ability of marine organisms such as clams and cuttlefish to form shells. This process has the potential to threaten the food chain, as many predators depend on this species as a food source. With the loss of hard shells, the structure of thousands of marine ecosystems could be eroded, resulting in an imbalance in predator and prey populations. Rising temperatures also affect species migration. Many fish and marine mammals are starting to move to cooler waters, changing fishing patterns and local ecosystems. These changes could cause conflict between traditional fishermen and the commercial fishing industry, while affecting the local economy. Rising sea levels due to evaporation of ice and melting glaciers also have an impact on coastal habitats such as mangroves, estuaries and coral reefs. This loss of habitat will reduce the refuge for many important marine species. The ever-increasing human population growth in coastal areas has the potential to worsen the situation, further threatening the sustainability of these ecosystems. The four impacts of climate change, namely increasing temperature, ocean acidification, changing migration patterns, and rising sea levels must be addressed immediately to save marine ecosystems. Effective mitigation measures such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and conservation of coastal ecosystems are essential. In-depth research into the specific impacts of climate change on various species and ecosystems needs to be conducted to facilitate the development of sustainable adaptation strategies. Public awareness and international collaboration are also key to overcoming this crisis. If changing trends are uncontrolled, the impact on the oceans will become increasingly severe, threatening not only biodiversity, but also human life which is highly dependent on marine resources. Urgent decisions and proactive action are urgently needed to protect marine ecosystems from the increasingly pressing threat of climate change.
